I have decades of experience with words, beginning with writing Public Service Announcements (PSAs) as a college student and paid Texas Tech University employee.

 

My first job out of college was copy editing for a pre-Internet news service, StarText, for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I selected local and wire service news articles, formatted them for our service, learned to write brief headlines, created and enlarged the amount of stories we could post daily and was later promoted to managing editor and then director.

Increased duties included: public speaking, column writing, official e-mails, informational manuals, style sheets and more.

Social Media

​

Social Media work includes posting on Facebook, websites, NextDoor and Twitter for the Town of Leland. My photographs were used on each of these formats.

I also was co-administrator for the ASU Student Union page and Facebook page.

Writing & Proofreading

 

I enjoy freelance writing for news services and magazines on topics ranging from alpaca farming to WWII internment camps.

I am the final proofer for Wrightsville Beach Magazine and love to find tricky fixes, such as when the word should have been conservation instead of conversation. I recently caught the misuse of canvass instead of canvas. Spell check knows they are both correct so no warning is given. But they are two different things.

Informational Flyers

​

I have created information sheets or flyers in most jobs I have had. I created data sheets for students at the Appalachian State Student Union Information Desk showcasing things such as the 300 clubs and organizations they could join, off-campus housing options and campus maps.

Power Point

 

I created two training Power Point guides with dozens of photographs to instruct students how to do their jobs at the Info Desk and the Ticket Sales desk. This was extremely helpful for student workers whose shifts were on weekends or late evening.

I continually updated a Power Point show which looped over the ticket sales area to publicize acts or bands coming to the campus night club, Legends. Using animation and the different slide effects are fun to me.

I also created and donated my time to a women's shelter non-profit, Kari's Home for Women, for an informational PP show to run during their yearly donor dinner.
